I wrote a blog yesterday, but it will remain on the back burner for now…
Ones health is such a personal thing. Being in the public eye (somewhat) it becomes necessary to divulge certain aspects of ones health…especially when it affects my craft. With that in mind, I recently had to withdraw from my upcoming Herod in Salome at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
It is always such a hard thing to do, but when your body isn’t cooperating, you must do what you have to. I am extremely lucky to have such wonderful people at the Lyric who understand and have found a great replacement. It still irks me. A lot of time and effort when into learning the role and now it is sidelined.
I have been dealing with a health issue for the past couple of years and I am on the other side of it now, but this final push has caused a reaction in my body. Modern medicine is just amazing. I recall my mother-in-law saying that “side effects of medicines are just effects, nothing side about them.” That is what I am dealing with…an effect of some meds that I am on. (“Medicine X may cause headaches, nausea, liver damage or other reactions.”) I am dealing with one of those “other” reactions. I just need to ride it out and then I should be on the mend! So that is the good news.
I look forward to seeing you on an opera stage at some point! Until then, keep a song in your heart!
"Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy." — Ludwig van Beethoven.
